ZOO

sunny sunday morning---perfect for coffee and listening to nickelcreek.

this afternoon i am going with the science department students to the copenhagen zoo :)  the last zoo i went to in denmark was pretty different---less cages, more animals up close and personal...and of course there was the snake temple.

difference between US zoos and Dk zoos #1:
check out the carnage in the wolf cage.

it seems that farmers and others in denmark who have extra roadkill or carcasses have a waiting list to donate the bodies to the zoo for feeding these lovely canines.  not exactly your friendly toddler show :)  but it works here.  sometimes things are more natural in denmark--things that should be realistic and are normally glossed over in the state.

and then there were the reptiles.  come on, you knew i had to find them somewhere :)  the leader of the university group also volunteers/works at the zoo, so she took us into the education rooms with all the animals.  aka, my newfound heaven and favorite place to be :)

meet a bearded dragon!  hehehe, it's bobo's long lost cousin.  (bobo = bearded dragon at charleston day, where i was the only one who would play with him!)

isn't he cute?  we like to cuddle.  i like to watch them eat crickets.  it's funny :)

and i am dying to get a ball python.  there was another one about 8 ft. long in the back room

olli liked to torture things...but not so much with the living things.  he is allergic to most of the animals.  hehe--so much for strapping german type.

ok, so maybe i joined in the torture.  you do remember what happened the night i tried to introduce cary's pet gecko to the kitten??  at least this time there was no blood.

TURTLES!  or TORTOISE, rather!!

view from the tower of the zoo.  there are a lot of towers in copenhagen.

and after the zoo, a lovely cozy cafe evening in vesterbro.  gotta love that hyggelig side of life in denmark.  this cafe is called obelix--a great place with student discounts and pretty decent coffee/food/beer.  we met up with carsten and the rest of the international gang here for a snack, and pre sunday study night coffee.

some kind of european cartoon/comic... asterix, and the character obelix which is where the cafe got its name.

international friends:
vincent (france), on the left and oliver (munich/bavaria, germany), on the right.  don't ask me what is up with olli's face--i can't tell you.
