bike trip to dyrehaven (elkpark)
on saturday carsten, merlin, elisa, their friend daniel and i went on a bike trip...we went north of copenhagen, along a street called strandvej, which means beach way. the road lives up to its name--not so much in the beach sense--it follows the coastline and the oresund (and sweden) are visible most of the way. we made several stops and detours--one to charlottelund, another to ermitagen castle, an unsuccessful apple pie pitstop at raadvad, and finally a snack (warm!) at strandmoellerkro. (kro = pub/local restaraunt..) along the way back we stopped to pick up groceries for a thai dinner at my place in taarnby. (and pecan pie with the pecans i found at the shop on stroget during kulturnatten)

A Night of Culture in Copenhagen
On October 15th, a total of more than 200 museums, churches, exhibition halls, galleries, political institutions, and other venues all over the city will open their doors, reflecting the broad cultural landscape of Copenhagen. Night of Culture has been an annual Copenhagen event siden 1993
Last year, I attended the same event when I was visiting Dk in October. It is a truly special night---crowded to the point of annoyance--with an extra 60K people in Copenhagen (and surrounding neighborhoods) for the night. With a button and ticket you get free transportation (bus, train, metro) for the entire night. The various ministries, military, police, museums, libraries, universities, etc etc all over the city contribute to the events. There were around 500 this year.

halloween: sharing North American traditions in Danmark =)
last night we had a dinner party complete with pumpkin carving with the internationals. 2 canadians, 2 americans, a newzealander, german, french, and dane were present. we followed the home-made pizza (all varieties of pesto, chicken, sun-dried tomato, spinach, buffalo mozzarella) with PUMPKIN spice pancakes and cinnamon apples. YUMMY.

Vincent is from France, so pumpkin carving was a decidedly new tradition for him. He was an eager participant though =) It was hard to explain why you have to carve out all the insides, and what the "good" meat is...I had never really thought about how intrinsic these ideas are to us.
Carving out the insides...
Yummy. Maybe you should be a zombie for halloween?
